Twin cities
The municipality's twin cities are Kongsvinger, Norway, Skive, Denmark and Ylöjärvi in Finland. Twinning with Skive and Kongsvinger started as early as in 1947 through an initiative of the Nordic Association. Ylöjärvi was added in 1978 and then replaced another Finnish municipality. The purpose of twinning is to exchange experience and contribute to the development of municipalities in different areas.
There is a program of principles governing the twinning exchange. For example, each municipality act as host for a meeting between the municipalities every four years, when the host municipality selects theme and date.
Other interaction
The municipality also has cooperation agreements, mainly about youth exchange, with some cities in Europe; Bydgoszcz (Poland), Kragujevac (Serbia), Palodar (Kazakhstan), Reggio Emilia (Italy) and Mannheim (Germany).
Another collaboration association is ARKO, where eleven Swedish-Norwegian municipalities are included.
The municipality is also a member of the association EuroArt, where some seventy European cities are collaborating concerning culture and tourism issues.
Even at home the municipality of Arvika is working in many different types of interaction organisations, some examples are Region Värmland, West Sweden and Western Värmland Cooperation (Arvika, Eda, Sunne, Säffle, Torsby, Årjäng).
In addition, continuous time-limited collaborative projects are going on, both nationally and internationally, in sectors such as education, business and social spheres.
